Mental Illness Awareness

In 2015 after searching for a mental health advocate of color on YouTube. During that search, I was only able to locate one black woman (Laqwanda’s Heart) who spoke about her mental health journey. Immediately after binge-watching all of her content, she decided to share her personal experience managing a mental illness. Thus, Consciously Coping was founded!

I am a past member of Active Minds, SSU Chapter. Past member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, (NAMI) and Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.

At Consciously Coping I host monthly gatherings via social media to learn from those who have done the work academically, physically, emotionally, and spiritually to offer you a vast array of mental wellness. Guest range from psychiatrists, pharmacists, advocates, educators, and more. By educating ourselves we can shift the paradigm of how black women are supposed to advocate for themselves.

My job is not to make you feel comfortable. We've been doing that for years and it hasn't worked.
